Job Purpose

The Ground Operations Trainer (Cargo) is responsible for designing, developing, and delivering Cargo Operations training programs in compliance with regulatory requirements and industry standards. The role ensures that all training activities align with GCAA, IATA, and ICAO regulations, with a particular emphasis on Dangerous Goods acceptance, Special Cargo handling, and adherence to Safety Management System (SMS) principles.

Key Result Responsibilities

  • Design and deliver Cargo Operations training programs in compliance with GCAA, IATA, and ICAO standards.
  • Conduct classroom and practical training in all areas of Cargo Operations, including ULD operations, Cargo acceptance, and handling of Special Cargo such as Live Animals, Dangerous Goods, and other regulated commodities.
  • Identify and apply effective training methodologies, including instructor-led, computer-based, or blended learning techniques.
  • Establish and implement the most efficient delivery methods by analyzing training needs, learning context, and learner profiles.
  • Regularly update training materials to align with the latest regulatory, safety, and operational requirements.
  • Evaluate training effectiveness through recognized models and recommend improvements to enhance learning outcomes.
  • Provide support during internal and external audits and assist with investigations related to Cargo Operations.
  • Ensure all training content supports corporate safety, quality, and operational excellence initiatives.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of industry best practices, regulatory developments, and innovations in Cargo Operations training.

Qualifications (Academic, training, languages)

  • Bachelor’s Degree (or equivalent).
  • Recognized “Train the Trainer” qualification (e.g., IATA, City & Guilds, or equivalent).
  • Valid Dangerous Goods (DGR) Certification for Acceptance Staff – Category 7.1 or equivalent (Instructor-level certification preferred).
  • Fluency in English (written and spoken); proficiency in Arabic or Russian will be an added advantage.

Work Experience

  • Minimum of five (5) years of hands-on experience in Cargo Acceptance, specifically in 2 yrs Dangerous Goods and Special Cargo handling.
  • Prior experience in training design and delivery within a regulated aviation environment preferred.
  • Extensive knowledge of IATA AHM, ICHM, ULDR, and related industry manuals is required.
  • Possesses knowledge and demonstrated capability relating to airline and ground handling Safety Management Systems (SMS).
